Southern Yankee wins by the comfortable margin of 2.25L at Benalla today to secure his Maiden victory over the staying trip of 2046m. Jockey Linda Meech said the win had even more merit because he never travelled at any stage but was still too good. Linda was at him the entire trip and came in a very tired lady. He’s still learning how to gallop so when the penny drops we might have a handy 3YO stayer on our hands.
