Bon Aurum could very well have earned himself a shot at the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on Saturday, after a dominant win in the Listed The Sofitel (1400m).

Ciaron Maher’s four-year-old son of Bon Hoffa left his rivals behind. Bon Aurum ran the quickest final 600 metres of the race (33.23 seconds) and in fact the quickest last 600m for the day.

Craig Williams produced the winning ride, with barrier 13 of 15 benefitting Bon Aurum’s style.

“We try to use him when they’re ready to win, so hopefully that strike-rate increases,” Maher said of his combination with Williams.

“Craig rode him perfect – he’s a horse that likes to stride into the race, cover a bit of ground and use his action.”

The Ken King Thoroughbreds bred and syndicated stallion has now taken his Stakes wins to 3.
